Teen Driver Ed

(Student ages 15 to 17)

Effective Nov. 15, 2021At 8 AM of the first day of each month, all driving slots for that month's in-car driving lessons will be posted on the driving school calendar.

Effective Nov 15, 2021: Currently, Pioneer has temporarily stopped in-car driving lessons for students that did not take the teen drivers education course at Pioneer.

The direct cause of this temporary hold is the decrease in instructor manning. Pioneer is looking to train and hire new in-car instructors.

  • Teen Drivers Ed Course (Classroom) (32 Hours)

    • 32 Hour Teen Class
16 classroom sessions; Monday thru Friday; 5:30 to 7:30 PM
    • 7 Teen Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) In-car Lessons
1 hour driving and 1 hour of backseat observation

SPECIAL NOTE: It is highly recommended but not required that the student in this course take the permit test at Pioneer. The permit test is also given at the DPS Drivers License Office for free. There is a small charge of $20 to take the permit test at Pioneer.

    • Prior to day 16, students that plan to take the permit test at Pioneer must register again on-line.
    • The permit test is only administrated on day 16 after completing the EOC test.
    • When registering for the permit test, DO NOT add the student's middle name. If added, the system will tell you that the student is already registered and give you an error.
  • Permit Test (Only for Classroom Students)

    • The permit test is not a stand-alone test
    • This test is only available to Pioneer's students that have taken Pioneer's classroom course
    • Test is only given at Pioneer Driving School on day 16. It is not available on-line.
    • There is no charge to take this test at the Drivers License Office
